The Aloha community has told us about unsafe walking conditions near bus lines. Lack of sidewalks and safe crossings along high-ridership transit lines make people uncomfortable. Access to transit in limited by wide, busy streets, missing sidewalk and few safe places to cross.
The Aloha Safe Access to Transit Project is funded by the Regional Flexible Fund Allocation through Metro. A County funding match is paid for through MSTIP Opportunity. The project is endorsed by:
The sidewalk locations were identified through two County studies:
We will design improvements based on the Aloha Town Center concept developed through these studies.
We are starting with an alternatives analysis to determine which improvements can be built with the available budget. We are analyzing three possible sidewalk connections and an enhanced pedestrian crossing.
The proposed sidewalk connections are:
We are also proposing a traffic signal with pedestrian crossing at SW 185th Avenue and SW Cascade Drive.
The alternatives that will have the greatest benefit to the community and are feasible with the given budget will move forward into design.
The project will follow criteria set by Metro. This adds a continuous sidewalk and/or buffer at least 8 feet wide, on one side of the street.
